The relationship between cell signaling and cancer This article discusses the relationship between cell signaling and cancer, highlights key signaling pathways involved in cancer and explores how critical mediators of aberrant signaling can be turned into therapeutic targets for cancer. 1,2 Many of these "disruptions" map to specific cell signaling pathways. These alterations disrupt "normal" cell function and cause cancerous cells to over proliferate and avoid mechanisms that would typically control their growth, division and migration. Cancer is a complex disease caused by genetic and/or epigenetic changes in one cell or a group of cells.
